Hat’s the way to do it

Saturday, January 28th, 2012
We know that summer’s miles away, and I’m guessing that we’re not all huge horse racing fans anyway, but we read a news piece in Grazia this week that sparked an idea for a blog post.
Apparently Ascot, the world famous horse race meeting that is a staple of the British Summertime is banning the wearing of fascinators! The fascinator seemed to be hitting it’s peak of popularity following the Royal Wedding last April, with Kate Middleton boosting awareness of these feathery pieces that perch on the side of people’s heads, but Ascot sy no!
They’re tightening up the dress code across much of Ascot this year so it’s hats only (well, not hats only, but you know what I mean)! So with that in mind we wanted to look at some of today’s most stylish hat wearers…
As always, we’d love to hear from you on our Facebook page so if we’ve missed someone out, make sure you tell us xx

Hollywood’s Magnificent 7

Wednesday, January 25th, 2012

With yesterday’s Oscar nominations still hot off the press, we’re taking a trip down memory lane to look at some of the world’s most iconic women and how they’ve influenced our fashion tastes over the years…

Grace Kelly won a best actress Oscar in 1954 for The Country Girl, and has since been a Hollywood icon who’s name we associate with elegance and beauty.

Or perhaps the impish Audrey Hepburn is more your style – and who could blame you?! Timeless,

simple, classic – no one did it like Audery. Still one of the most revered fashion icons to this day, designers like Posh Spice often look to her for inspiration. Surely every girl has a little Audrey Hepburn inside her. Do you?

Forever gorgeous, the original sex kitten with the bee stung lips, Bridgette Bardot was a model, actress and singer. Although she was far bigger in her native France than Hollywood, she still registers as a legend who operated by a very simple motto: if you’ve got it, flaunt it.

The word siren was invented for Sophia Loren. She brought to Hollywood a vivaciousness and flair that only a true stylish Italian femme fatale could. Bold, demanding, luscious and curvy, the woman had it all!

One of the greatest film stars of all time, Elizabeth Taylor was probably best known for two things; her role as Cleopatra in the 1963 film and her eight marriages to seven different men. With style likes hers, who can blame the men for forming a queue?!

Moving a little more up to date… Meryl Streep has recently starred in the Iron Lady, so will that make us want to dress like Margaret Thatcher? We all love a strong women so we can expect a deluge of features on ‘how to get the Thatcher look’. Hmm, let’s hope not!

And last but by no means least, we love the graceful and poised Gwyneth Paltrow, a New Yorker who has emerged as an admired style icon and portrait of the cool, modern woman who has it all. Her style is very understated but classic. We may be a little jealous, and Gywneth can seem a little too proud of herself at times – but then again wouldn’t you be with a successful career, beautiful family and rock star husband?!

Who won the style awards at this year’s Golden Globes?

Wednesday, January 18th, 2012
The 2012 Golden Globes saw many beautiful women in
beautiful gowns. There were lots in bold colours, and we
loved Angelina Jolie’s flash of crimson red against satiny
white with red clutch and red lippy.
Kate Beckinsdale looked stunning and very natural in a
Roberto Cavalli fleshy tone with hair pulled back, and
Claire Danes sported the classic monochrome look with a
low cut back.
Tilda Swinton wore a light blue gown with jacket, and
looked like she’d just stepped off the runway – a very
‘now’ look!
Michelle Williams and Charlize Theron also looked ‘on
trend’, sporting headbands. But for us the best dressed of
all would have to be Emma Stone in Lanvin…
Outfits we weren’t so sure about would be Evan Rachael Wood in a Gucci
sequined dress with real feathers at the bottom in a weird kind of mermaid,
peacock fashion. And lastly Madonna, her dress looking a little too busy for
our liking and we’re not sure about the ‘like a virgin’ single glove? Come on
Madge, it’s not 1985 any more!!
But enough from us, what do you
think? Did you see ‘The Globes’? And
who was your award winning style icon
for the night?
